Why do we make New Year’s resolutions, anyway? I can’t think of anyone who sticks with them longer than a month or two. An entire year seems like a very long time when you are giving something up or adding in something like exercise. I decided to make some, of course, but I already broke a few and I feel I should take a new look at things.

So I’m going to be doing monthly resolutions instead. A month isn’t that long, right? I mean, this month only has 28 days. And you can break it down even further. Four weeks sounds like even less time. And you can do anything for one week, right? So it’s just little bits of time that all add up. Even if you fail, at the start of the next month you can try again. Or try something else. I think I like this new method.

My resolutions for February are:

* buy no new clothing
* exercise at least twice a week
* don’t drink soda
* don’t buy new yarn until all current projects are done

That seems like enough things for now. I would add “eat less junk food” but I have a fresh bag of Fritos. And “eat less chocolate” but I have some awesome organic ice cream in the freezer. And you can’t say no to that.

even more yarn

    And if you can do it for one month, it’s supposed to stick already. :D

    Plus, breaking it down by the month makes it easier to focus on specific goals. I did the “no soda” one early last year because I’d have one can a day, but I cut that down to once a week or something like that. I have that on my Joe’s Goals so that I can see if I’m starting to drink too much soda again.
