It’s practically summer here in Texas, so it’s about time we get going on the spring cleaning. I love purging and decluttering. The nitty gritty of cleaning? Not so much, and it is evident through our house. I tried to get a lot of cleaning done while B was in Chicago, but one hardcore day of cleaning wiped me out for the rest of the project.
This attempt will be aided by Simple Mom and her Spring Cleaning Party. I got her e-book, “Spring Cleaning for Normal People”, and it’s great. Her approach is very common-sense: Clean one room at a time. Duh. I don’t know why I don’t do that. For some reason I flit from room to room and therefore no room looks really clean.

We’re starting early because we have more rooms than are covered in the e-book, and also because my birthday falls in the middle of the Party. Hopefully with this deep cleaning we will be able to add some more regular cleaning to our lives. It’s possible it might make me want to rip out our carpeting more, but I’ll just have to deal with it until we can afford to put something else in to replace it. I’ve already decided to toss an area rug that was a huge mistake (white! what was I thinking!) and I am loving the wide expanse of Pergo in our living room.
It’s kind of funny that as the older I get the more I want things to be clean, to have less clutter. Growing up my room was always a huge mess. In my dorm room, which was the size of a large closet, there were times when I couldn’t open the door very wide because of all the crap on the floor. I’m really pleased to be past that stage of life. Now if I could just figure out how to get those lime stains off the kitchen sink.

Oh, I know what you mean about growing out of being messy. My Mom just laughed when I told her I was spring cleaning for the next two weeks. “You? Cleaning? Decluttering? What happened to the messy girl I know?” Amazing what growing up and getting a life does for you.
