Lessons
It’s been an interesting year for me. I feel like a lot has changed for me ever since I joined Foodbuzz in August, and that was only five months ago.
Our year was actually pretty great. There have been many people affected by the economy but our little family came out the year unscathed. I suppose there is still a chance I could lose my job in 2010 (it depends on if we win the contract), but I’m actually not worried about that. I suppose my outlook has changed a bit, and if I was suddenly unemployed I’d look at it as an opportunity to venture forth with some new ideas that have been bubbling.
Before I can write about what I want to achieve in the next year, though, I thought I would write down ten things I’ve learned in 2009.
Patience, patience, patience.
At the same time, don’t be afraid to push.
Don’t draw drama into your blog unless your blog is about drama. I don’t think I’ve done this, but other blogs I read have. And it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see bloggers calling out for their readers to attack a troll. Because that’s what it is, attacking. Trolls suck, it’s true, but they are a part of the online world, especially if you run a popular site. Just delete the comment and walk away. There’s a reason why many of us don’t allow anonymous comments.
Mushrooms aren’t so bad.
Don’t compromise yourself. I could probably have a more popular blog right now if I was willing to give up some of my ideals. But that’s not who I am – I want to be true to myself and my goals in life. I don’t want to look back with regret.
Traveling without your husband and child is a wonderful, and perhaps necessary, endeavor.
Running isn’t so bad, either. It’s the getting out of the bed cocoon that sucks.
Baking is worth the trouble.
Just when you start thinking about having another child, the first one will do something to make you wish you’ll never have to relive that something ever again.
You can always try again tomorrow.
Here’s to 2010, everyone.
