Cleanse update

I swear I haven’t been ignoring y’all. Aside from the lack of energy the cleanse has produced, my son has decided sleeping is for the birds – that is, unless you also sleep with him. So I’ve been going to bed pretty early this week, cutting out all my time for writing.
So. Day 4 of the cleanse is today. Last night the boys had chicken nuggets for dinner and I really wanted one, all dipped up in honey and so tasty, I imagine. But I ate a salad instead, and was pretty satisfied instead of probably being annoyed with myself for breaking down. (If you’re wondering, it was mixed greens, carrots, and broccoli from the CSA, chopped almonds, golden raisins, and balsamic vinaigrette.)
Because I also gave up caffeine, and am used to drinking 2 cups of coffee a day, the headaches have been pretty horrible. They fade in and out and by the end of the day are usually gone – except, of course, when the child is crying and the stress is building up in your head again. I’m hoping that by the weekend it will stop and next week at work won’t be so bad.
I’ve been bad about bringing leftovers for my lunch, but there are options around me. Monday I went to the grocery store and picked up a couple vegan gluten-free frozen. And they are GOOD. Thanks, Amy’s! That had me set for a couple days, and then on Wednesday we all splurged and went to Freebirds for some Bird Bowls – basically, a burrito in a bowl. No tortilla for me of course, but I piled on rice, black beans, roasted peppers and onions, pico de gallo, corn salsa, and guacamole. Mmm.
I have to say that I have not felt unsatisfied with my meals. I have been more hungry overall, but I think that is because before, I was stuffing myself with junk that just kind of settles into you. Plus it helps to have snacks on-hand that aren’t bad for me. Well, OK, Fritos aren’t good for me but they only have three ingredients and are gluten-free. So there.
Oh! I also want to give a shout-out to Daydreamer Desserts, who was my Foodie Secret Santa! She sent me some yummy butter cookies, spiced espresso cookies, and a gift card to Sur La Table, which I used to get that cutter up there, a pastry blender, and an angled spreader.
Thanks to Joy from Gourmeted for organizing!
Keep up the good work. I too the end of last year and beginning of this year have been working on majorly changing my diet (gluten free and no nightshades), in hopes of clearing my psoriasis.
I can tell you that you will start not to be hungry after the first 2 weeks. Keep moving and do anything you can not to think about it & it’ll get better!!
All nightshades? Wow, I’m not sure I could do that. It’s really hard to avoid tomatoes down here. Good luck!
