Drying basil is an easy and inexpensive way to keep herbal flavor at your fingertips. Try one of four easy methods to preserve it for months.

Pinch basil leaves off the plant above a new set of leaves. Wash and pat dry with a towel.

Preheat oven to its lowest temperature (around 170°F). Arrange leaves on a lined baking sheet.

Bake for 60-90 minutes, until leaves are dry and crispy.

Using a microwave, place between two layers of paper towels and heat in 30 second bursts until dry.

Cool completely before storing. Whole leaves will keep for 6-12 months.

Crushed leaves will keep for 3-6 months. Make sure to store in a cool, dry place.
