Cherry Ice Cream with Amaretto
No pitting required! This cherry ice cream recipe uses jarred maraschino cherries for a simple shortcut.

Ingredients
- 11 ounces maraschino cherries without stems
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur
Instructions
- Strain cherries over a bowl, reserving liquid. Slice half the cherries into quarters and set aside.11 ounces maraschino cherries
- In a blender, purée remaining cherries with the reserved juice, then pour into a medium bowl. Whisk in cream, milk and sugar. Cover and chill 2 hours.1 1/2 cups heavy cream, 1 1/2 cups whole milk, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- When ready to make the ice cream, add amaretto and mix well. Pour liquid into machine and freeze according to manufacturer’s instructions. In the last few minutes of churning, mix in the reserved sliced cherries. Scoop ice cream into freezer containers and chill completely, until ready to serve.2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur
Notes
- Makes about 1 1/2 quarts.
- If you don't want to use amaretto, replace it with 1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, or 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
