Learn how easy it is to make whipped honey at home. This creamy spread is delicious on your morning toast, desserts, or used in drinks.

When I travel, I love to bring back foods that are local to the area. One great and easy item to grab is local honey, so over the years I’ve tried honey from quite a few places!
Because of my honey-buying habit, there are times when I open the cupboard and realize, well, I’ve got quite a bit of honey on my hands! Fortunately, there’s whipped honey to make.
Whipped honey is a light and fluffy version of honey. It has a wonderfully creamy consistency, making it the perfect topping for English muffins or biscuits.
Note that creamed honey (which you might see from honey vendors or at farm stores) and whipped honey are not the same thing. While you can make creamed honey at home, the process is much more difficult and better left to the honey experts!
This whipped honey is easy to make. Make a batch today and elevate your morning meals.
Ingredients for whipped honey
You only need one ingredient to make whipped honey: honey!
Raw honey is my pick for making this. Because it hasn’t been heated, it keeps all of the beneficial nutrients. It’s also thicker and has bits of crystallized honey, so it gets a really great texture once whipped.
If raw honey is hard for you to get, you can try this recipe with pasteurized honey. However, it might take longer for the honey to whip, and the texture won’t be quite the same.
Keep in mind that certain honeys are stronger in flavor than others (wildflower honey is typically stronger than clover), but the whipping process mellows out some of the flavor.
If you like, you can incorporate spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom. Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon.
How to make this recipe
Pour your honey into the bowl of a stand mixer, or use a bowl and an electric hand mixer. It does take a while to whip, so a stand mixer is recommended.
Turn the mixer on, gradually working up to high speed. As you whip, it will start turning paler in color.
Whip the honey for 15-20 minutes. It will become very light in color, thick, and creamy.
Transfer the honey to airtight containers. Glass mason jars with wide mouths or Weck jars are perfect for whipped honey and make it easy to gift!
You can use the honey immediately, or save for later.
Storage tips
Make sure to store in a tightly sealed container. You do not want moisture to get into the jar, as it will cause the honey to lose its texture.
Whipped honey can be stored at room temperature just like regular honey. I recommend keeping it in a cool, dry place like a pantry or cupboard.
If your house gets very hot, the honey can melt and turn back to liquid, so consider keeping it in the refrigerator. The honey should not become solid, but will be thick and spreadable.
The whipped honey will separate slightly in the fridge, with a layer of foam rising to the top. You can just stir the foam back into the honey.
Stored properly, the honey should keep indefinitely!
How to use whipped honey
You can use the whipped honey just like regular honey, drizzling it over pancakes, into your tea, or wherever else you’d enjoy honey.
Whipped honey can also be used to make whipped honey coffee. Dalgona coffee was all the rage back during the lockdowns, and this honey version is a thicker, sweeter version.
To 1-2 tablespoons of whipped honey, add 2 tablespoons of instant coffee or espresso (not regular ground coffee) and 2-3 tablespoons of hot water. Whip using a milk frother or small whisk until thick and frothy. Fill a glass with ice and add your favorite milk. Spoon the whipped coffee over the top.
You’ll love the incredibly creamy taste of this whipped honey. Make some today!
